Miller Shoots for Hockey in Hamilton
Dons jersey in support of bid to bring hockey back to the Steel City
QUEEN'S PARK—NDP Recreation and Sports critic and Hamilton East – Stoney Creek MPP Paul Miller made a bold statement in the Legislature today, sporting a “Hockey Night in Hamilton” hockey jersey.
At the start of Question Period, Miller received unanimous consent of the Legislature to wear the jersey, declaring: “I have heard the Premier voice his support for this team and I am sure that all my colleagues here will also support this sports and economic boost to the Hamilton region.”
The jersey represents Hamilton’s proud hockey past and its potential for the future. The tiger on the back symbolizes the Hamilton Tigers, a former NHL team from the early 1920s, while the coyote stands for the team Miller hopes will move to Hamilton from Phoenix.
“Call them the Coyotes, call them the Tigers,” Miller stated. “Let’s just bring an NHL team back to Hamilton.”
