Time for McGuinty to Protect Pensions: Miller
MPP renews call in effort to protect decades of workers' investment

QUEEN'S PARK—NDP Pensions Critic and MPP for Hamilton East—Stoney Creek Paul Miller is renewing his call for the McGuinty Liberals to protect the pensions of hard-working Ontarians.

“Men and women in Ontario who have worked for decades for profitable companies are facing the prospect of living out their retirement in poverty because the McGuinty government is walking away from its commitment to backstop pension shortfalls through its Pension Benefit Guarantee Fund,” Miller said today in Question Period.

Miller demanded the McGuinty Liberals commit to supporting the Pension Benefits Guarantee Fund. “Workers at General Motors, Chrysler, Nortel and AbitibiBowater have given decades of their lives to their work. Now their pensions are at risk through no fault of their own,” said Miller.

“The McGuinty Liberals are telling pensioners that they are out of luck and on their own. It’s appalling!”
