Miller Exposes McGuinty's Millon-Dollar-a-Day Addiction
Ministry spending on consultants cost province $400M in 2008

QUEEN'S PARK—The McGuinty Liberals are hooked on consultants to the tune of $1-million dollars a day, according to documents obtained by the NDP Caucus through a Freedom of Information request.

“The documents show the Liberals spent nearly $400-million on high-priced consultants last year alone,” said Hamilton East—Stoney Creek MPP Paul Miller during this morning’s Question Period.

“And that doesn’t even include consultant spending at agencies, boards and commissions,” he added.

Miller highlighted the two worst offending ministries.

“The Ministry of Government Services burned through more than $100-million on consultants in 2008 while the Ministry of Health spent $89-million,” he said.

“Every day across Ontario we hear about cuts to vulnerable kids, to unemployed workers and to community hospitals. Yet, every day this government manages to blow more than a million bucks on consultants. It’s outrageous.”

Miller called on Premier Dalton McGuinty to reign in the spending.

“During these difficult economic times, how can the Premier possibly justify this kind of spending on consultants? It’s high time he said enough is enough and ended his government’s million-dollar-a-day addiction to consultants and their bloated fees.”
