Miller to McGuinty: Let People Vote on the HST
Calls on Premier to give voters a true say on new tax

QUEEN'S PARK—During Question Period this morning, NDP MPP Paul Miller, on behalf of Nancy, demanded to know “how tens of thousands of Ontarians will come up with 8% more to pay for basics like home heating, gas, haircuts and many more.” As usual the Government will not hear what real Ontarians are saying about this ill-advised, Harmful Sales Tax.

Citing Don, who said “tell them to keep their $1,000...bribe. We all know the average family will be paying out way more than their meagre bribe,” Miller further questioned “These are everyday Ontarians who know that the HST will only make their lives more expensive. Why is the McGuinty government ignoring them?”

In a final attempt to get this Government to hear what Ontarians are saying, Miller challenged, “if the finance minister is so certain that everyday people like Nancy, Don, Cary and Brad have it wrong, why won’t he halt the HST implementation and put it to a real test — to the people in the 2011 general election?”

“Sadly, this Liberal Government is clear in its intention to ram this unwanted, job-killing, disposal income reducing, harmful sales tax down the throats of seniors, disability support recipients and lower income earning Ontarians, with wanton disregard to the food it will take off tables, the clothes off children’s backs and the loss of any anticipated extra for birthdays, Christmas or other special days” said Miller.
