Liberals' Bad Managment Drives Hamilton Cuts: Miller
Poor decisions and irresponsible spending by Government at root of cuts to care
QUEEN'S PARK—NDP MPP Paul Miller (Hamilton East–Stoney Creek) today demanded that the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care protect health care in Hamilton by spending health care dollars wisely.
“The extravagant and irresponsible spending by the McGuinty Liberals - their million-dollar-a-day untendered consulting contracts being but one example – is behind the deep cuts to real health care in this province”, blasted Miller. “We have to seriously question the ability of this government to manage our tax dollars when health care in Hamilton is gutted because of McGuinty’s funding decisions”.
Hamilton Health Sciences has announced the devastating cuts that will see 149 positions disappear, on top of the reduced patient services in an unhealthy environment of already-scaled back health care delivery.
St. Joseph’s Healthcare announced 12 nursing and staff cuts as well as significant increases to patient and visitor parking fees; fees which already have a serious effect on families’ financial ability to support their hospitalized loved ones.
“Shockingly, according to the hospitals, these cuts may only be the tip of the iceberg. This Liberal Government is driving our health care system into the ground, taking away much needed services from our most vulnerable citizens. Those with already reduced capacity to care for themselves will now have to deal with further hardship, thanks to McGuinty’s complete mismanagement of our precious health care dollars and health care system”, stormed Miller.
