Stuck in Neutral, Budget Offers Little New for Hamilton
Liberal Plan provides few answers to address jobs, healthcare, pensions
QUEEN'S PARK—Hamilton East—Stoney Creek NDP MPP Paul Miller says today’s provincial budget is just more of the same for Hamilton residents from a McGuinty government that’s still stuck in neutral after almost seven years in office.
“We’ve lost thousands of jobs in our community, including 1,600 last month alone and 550 more to come at Siemens. Families are worried about how they’ll put food on the table and pay the bills each month. Yet the McGuinty Liberals are still stuck in neutral,” said Miller.
“Hamilton residents who were looking for real solutions are once again being left out in the cold by a government that doesn’t seem to care about what happens in our city.”
Miller pointed to the budget’s glaring shortcomings when it comes to jobs, pensions and healthcare.
“If you’re out of work, you’re still out of luck. If you don’t have a workplace pension, you’re still in limbo. If you’re worried about the state of local healthcare in the wake of service and staffing cuts, there’s reason to worry even more,” said Miller.
“This budget is like a joke – a cruel joke that does nothing to address the needs of the hard-working women, men and young people who worry that the neutral McGuinty Liberals are slowly slipping our City and Province into reverse.”
