Transfer Feeder Lands for a True Nominal Fee: Miller
High price for Eramosa Karst Feeder Lands barrier to conservation efforts
QUEEN'S PARK—NDP MPP Paul Miller, Hamilton East – Stoney Creek, this morning asked the Minister of Infrastructure to transfer the Eramosa Karst Feeder Lands to the Hamilton Conservation Authority for a true nominal fee. “Like the Eramosa Karst itself, the transfer fee should be truly nominal, that is, $2.00,” said Miller.
The issue of saving the Feeder Lands from development has been a goal of Miller’s since being elected in 2007. “We thought that we had finally won when the proposed development was stopped,” said a wary Miller, “but now we find that the transfer to the Hamilton Conservation Authority is up in the air.”
Miller questioned why the change from a nominal fee to market value, when this change was made and when this Liberal Government will finally come clean with Hamilton, environmentalists and the people of Ontario and transfer the Eramosa Karst Feeder Lands for a true nominal fee to the Hamilton Conservation Authority. The two Liberal Ministers who responded said that they are discussing the situation and will come to a solution “pleasing to the people.”
“That’s the smoke and mirrors kind of responses we’ve been getting from the Liberal Government,” said Miller. “I will continue pushing this Liberal Government to do the right thing and transfer these Feeder Lands to the Hamilton Conservation Authority for a nominal fee, in the very near future.”
